The streets around Market Square will be dressed with wreaths of greens on each iron lamppost and a majestic tree in Market Square (lit following the city’s Illuminated Holiday Parade on December 1st.) Distinctive boutiques, artisans’ crafts and selections hand-chosen by their shopkeepers to showcase the best of their Holiday wares fill 19th century brick storefronts in a streetscape designed for window-shopping.

This year our local independent retailers are participating in a Holiday Doors of Portsmouth decorating contest. In addition to the festively-displayed inventories of items that will each be the perfect gift for someone, and the holiday grace notes – a plate of cookies here, a cup of warm cider somewhere else – each door will be a unique expression of the owners’ wishes for good cheer.
